This article focuses on the absolute basics of parrot ownership and aimed at beginners in parrot keeping.

Owning a parrot is not for everyone. Parrots need lots of interaction and things to do to keep them from feeling bored as they are one of the most intelligent species of birds. For centuries, parrots have been a sign of affluence and privilege for those that owned them. Of course ravens and blue jays are intelligent, but most people want a parrot because one of the attributes of many species is the ability to talk. A parrot that talks will seem more like a member of the family than a pet.

If your dog or cat were to escape their confinement, they would learn to forage and learn to find shelter; a parrot on the other hand would be asking the squirrels where they could find the nuts. To ensure the safety of your bird………no matter whether they are a good flyer or only airborne for a few feet it is mandatory that all household electricals are kept out of sight. All windows and doors must remain closed which is a hard habit to adapt to if you’re one of those people who readily invite burgers. Apply the same precautions as you would to a small human toddler and you will be on the road with a happier safer parrot.
